Loving Kindness Meditation

When we do good, we feel good. And when we feel good, we do good. You don’t have to be particularly clever to know that – it’s pure intrinsic brilliance – the wisdom we all have within us. But, if you’re a data-driven person, science supports it all the way.

Between the Center for Compasion and Altruism Research and Education at StanfordGreater Good Science Center at University of California – Berkeley & Davis, the Center for Investigating Healthy Minds at University of Wisconsin – Madison, and myriad other clinical research institutes, we know from carefully conducted research studies:

– Compassion is adaptive and good for us in many ways.

– We can cultivate compassion through meditation.

– Meditating on kindness affects our neuronal networks, and thus, the way we see the world.

Below is my version of a loving kindness meditation. It helps me to imagine it emanating from inside me at the core of my being, because it unconsciously reminds me that internal creates external. When I focus on this, I know I am playing my part “being the change” and creating the world I want to inhabit.
