When we go for a ride in the car we rarely forget to put petrol in the tank. That is something we’re used to doing regularly and so we monitor it closely and remember to pause and put this much-needed fuel in the car. After all, you’re not going anywhere without something in the tank.


So too with ourselves, our bodies quickly remind us when we’ve forgotten to eat and the tank is running low. The physical feedback is akin to the petrol light that comes on the dashboard, it’s hard to miss, isn’t it? Whether we get hangry or dizzy, the signs are pretty clear when we need fuel.

And it’s got to be the right type of fuel too. You don’t need to have experienced putting diesel fuel in a petrol tank to realise this. Peak performance requires the right type of fuel, in the right quantity, at the right time. But that’s not all it requires. Because what about the rest of the car? What about the rest of your being?



A lot of people don’t regularly check the oil in the car, or the air in the tires or even the fluid for the windscreen wipers. That is unless there’s a big journey is up ahead. Or something goes wrong.


But as diligent car owners know if you check those things regularly and make sure your car is well taken care of in every aspect then your car is ready for peak performance as you go on your journey, no matter what it is.


Sure you can just have it towed to the mechanic if it breaks down on the side of the road but that is a costly and often challenging experience. If you’re breaking down, you’ve left it too late to attend to the maintenance of your vehicle.


And prevention is the best cure, isn’t it? So returning to our metaphor, the better we service all aspects of our being the better we equipped we are holistically and the greater chance we have of success in all endeavours.
